Jason Wood is the kind of guy you want on your team. This former Marine is an intelligent, team-minded leader who is dedicated to getting the job done right. He embodies every one of Claris’s core values and builds trust and makes friends wherever he goes.

Jason’s Story

“I was born in Farragut and dibble dabbled in college, but at the time, college wasn’t for me. For me the military was a great option. I knew the Marines had the toughest physical requirements, so that’s where I wanted to be. I knew I wanted my job in the military to help prepare me for a career afterward, so I applied for a job in technology. Eventually, it was me and one other person working as systems administrators supporting 1,500 people at our base in North Carolina. Later I got a job as an assistant to a 2-star General where I learned a lot about leadership.”

Lessons in Leadership

“The military draws out leadership and really teaches you what it means. There are a lot of great leaders in the military, and, unfortunately, there are some bad ones as well. While working for the 2-star General, I got to see the “how” and “why” of the big decisions that were made in the Marines. And I got a first-hand look at truly great leadership.

What’s the difference between good leaders and bad leaders?

“I remember when the “higher ups” were considering making a change in the rifles. Instead of assuming what the soldiers needed, this 2-star General would stop in the chow halls and talk to anyone from privates to staff sergeants, asking them what they thought. Then, he waited a month before he voiced his opinion.

Good leaders make quick decisions when they have to. But if they have the time, they sit down with the people that will be directly affected. Bad leaders impose their will with no rhyme or reason, and they don’t care what anyone else thinks.

Watching this General helped shape my perspective on leadership and how I could apply it in my life.”

Working at Claris

It’s not difficult to see that Jason takes the same focus, dedication and leadership he honed in the Marines and applies it to his role helping Claris Networks’ clients. As a Technical Account Manager, or TAM, Jason helps “Partner, Serve and Lead” Claris clients by building relationships and helping connect the dots between their business and how technology can be used to move their business forward.

Jason Superman

“Claris TAMs help build a real partnership with our clients that you can’t get from any other IT company. We’re not just a “break-fix tech vendor,” but we really work to understand your vision and how technology can help. We’re an advocate for our clients to Claris. We’re not on commission, we’re not sales guys. Our entire goal is to help this customer succeed in the work they do.

We have in-depth conversations with our customers to see what they want their business to become. Then we work to make technology help them realize that vision.”

Why do you love coming to work at Claris?

“The core culture. It’s a family. We work in a very serious business, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. It’s family-first, it fits my personality, what I care about and supports my Christian values. Plain and simple, Claris feels like home.”

If you’ve ever had the chance to work with Jason, you know what an asset he is to the Claris team.
